We scanned 9,509 HVAC and plumbing companies across 69 metros in 17 states and measured how each one captures demand: map-pack presence, online booking, after-hours coverage, and review standing.

How was this measured?

Between June and September 2026 we ran a Revenue Leak Scan against 9,509 independent HVAC and plumbing companies operating in 69 metros across 17 states (AL, AR, FL, GA, IA, IN, KY, MO, MS, NC, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI). Each scan checks the company's public web presence and Google Business Profile directly. 6,028 were HVAC, 3,481 plumbing. Every figure below is a count over those companies. Nothing is modelled or extrapolated, and no figure is carried over from businesses we didn’t scan.

What share of home-services companies offer online booking?

65.4% of the 9,509 companies we scanned had no way for a customer to book online.

HVAC 62.4%, plumbing 70.7%. It runs from 42.1% in Charlottesville, VA to 85.5% in El Paso, TX, a spread of 43.4 points.

How many home-services companies rank in the Google map pack?

83.7% of the 9,509 companies we scanned were not ranking in the local map pack for their core service terms.

What happens when a customer calls a contractor after hours?
